Thomas Alan Miller
March 28, 1945 – February 2, 2011
We mourn the loss of our union brother and dear friend.
Thomas was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 42 years. He was also a Delegate to the Western Virginia Labor Federation. He was honored as Man of the Year at the 2010 Bread and Roses Dinner.
Thomas participated in numerous labor walks and you could always count on him to stop by after work and do some time on the phones, phone banking.
He served on the Executive Board and Examining Board of Local #637, until it was dissolved in 2004: to merge with Local #26. Thomas had been highly recommended for that. After prayerful consideration he accepted the title and continued working for and with the union in a different capacity; utilizing the same offices that used to house local #637. Being a personable man, he helped make the transition easier for all concerned. Thomas always kept a low profile and was very conscientious to the need to represent the union man to the best of his ability.
He was married to Margaret for 43 year: they have 6 children Connie, Scott (Kristen), Ginger Luther (Jeff), Matthew, Valerie Lawrence (Rob) and Noah. One of his sons, Scott; is also a union man working for local #26 and is general foreman. Thomas and Margaret have 2 grandchildren, Austin and Amber Luther and 1 great grandchild, Troy Wright.
