OCCUPATION: Retired Member, Virginia House of Delegates, first elected in 1994 representing the 12th House District ( Blacksburg, and the Counties of Alleghany, Bath, Craig and Giles). While a member of the General Assembly served on the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, the Education Committee and the Public Safety Committee Retired, Doctor Veterinary Medicine. Founder and former owner of Companion Animal Clinic, Inc. — practiced for 25 years, Blacksburg.

PERSONAL: Born in Rockingham County, the youngest of six. First student body president of Page County High School, graduated 1962, received Outstanding Senior Award. Married to Margaret Sue Flippin Shuler, from Pulaski. They have two children — Laurel Shuler Moore, ’ 94 Georgetown graduate and Marshall Shuler, 1996 graduate of University of Virginia, 2001 graduate of Duke University and 2005 graduate of MIT. Margaret and Jim have four grandchildren — Mallory and Gillian Moore, Zahara James Shuler and Ali Marshall Shuler

HOBBIES: Boating, fishing, hunting, restoring vintage automobiles and restoring and collecting antique clocks
