This free three-day workshop is for union members who want to learn how to better serve the union and its membership.

Interested in becoming one of the labor movement's "Rising Political Stars?" Then, sign up for the next 2019 classes for the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor's Civic Leadership Academy. The next academy starts June 8.

The academy is free to CAPE members and teaches participants the essentials of political campaigns and public service, from running field operations and building a winning coalition to the basics of policy and the responsibilities of civic commissions.

Last week, the Negotiating Teams for Units 501 and 502 (Professional Engineers & Supervising Professional Engineers) and Units 511 and 512 (Engineering Technicians and Supervising Engineering Technicians) met with a state mediator in an attempt to settled its impasse with the County of Los Angeles.

Bargaining Update:

The Negotiating Teams for all CAPE bargaining units have declared an "impasse" with the County. 

Mediation is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 27 (Units 131/132) and Thursday, Feb. 28 (Units 501/502 and 511/512). 

By failing to negotiate equitable Unit and Fringe Benefits contracts for members of the California Association of Professional Employees.

For the Unit Contracts, the County is demanding CAPE members agree to a base salary increase of just 7% over three years.

The CAPE Office will be closed on Monday, Feb. 18 in celebration of Presidents Day.
